CritterSnap
Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 3, 2026
The short version: CritterSnap uses your camera and location to help you identify and log wildlife sightings. Photos you take may be sent to iNaturalist for species identification. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Camera and photos
CritterSnap requests access to your device’s camera to photograph wildlife. Photos are stored locally on your device. With your permission, cropped or processed versions of photos may be sent to the iNaturalist API to identify the species in the image.
1.2 Location data
CritterSnap requests access to your device’s location to tag wildlife sightings with GPS coordinates. Location data is stored locally with your critter collection and is used to display sightings on the in-app map. We do not continuously track your location in the background.
1.3 Local app data
The App stores the following data locally on your device:
- Photos and critter stickers you have created.
- Species identification results and conservation data.
- Location coordinates of your wildlife sightings.
- Achievement progress and collection statistics.
- Your in-app settings and preferences.
1.4 Crash reports and diagnostics
If you have opted in to share analytics with Apple at the OS level, crash reports and basic diagnostic information may be shared with us through Apple’s developer console. This data is anonymized and does not include your photos, location history, or critter collection.
2. How We Use Your Information
Camera and photo data is used solely to create critter stickers and to request species identification from iNaturalist. Location data is used solely to tag and display your wildlife sightings within the App.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or tracking. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties beyond what is described in Section 4.
3. Data Storage and Security
All critter collection data, photos, and location history are stored in a local database on your device and are subject to your device’s built-in security. The App does not maintain its own backend servers or user accounts. Data sent to iNaturalist or Wikipedia is governed by their respective privacy policies.
4. Third-Party Services
CritterSnap integrates the following third-party services to provide species identification and educational information:
- iNaturalist API — Used to identify wildlife species from photos. Image data may be transmitted to iNaturalist servers for processing. See the iNaturalist Privacy Policy.
- Wikipedia API — Used to fetch publicly available species information. No personal data is sent in these requests. See the Wikimedia Privacy Policy.
The App does not integrate any advertising networks, social media trackers, or payment processors.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion: Because all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing its data in iOS Settings.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at jadezdon@gmail.com.
7. Data Retention
